AK Robotics does one thing. From its home at The Heeren, 260 Orchard Road, it trains students aged 10 to 24 for competitive robotics — from structural basics to advanced engineering, in small group classes, along what it calls a structured path to the podium. No coding-for-fun tasters, no birthday workshops. Its self-description is immodest and, unusually for this industry, verifiable: home of VEX world champions and Ivy League pathways.

The academy's method is codified as the AK Ladder System — visualised growth, real-time evolution. In practice it means a student always knows which rung they stand on and what the next one demands: structural fundamentals first, then subsystems and drivetrains, then full championship-season campaigns where a team designs, builds, documents, breaks and rebuilds a robot against a live deadline. Every season closes with an engineering notebook a stranger could audit — because at the far end of this ladder, strangers do: judges first, admissions officers later.

Six seasons to a world title
The programme's teams entered championship competition in 2018, in the VEX season known as Turning Point. Six seasons of campaigns followed — the unglamorous cycle of building and rebuilding that highlight reels skip. In 2026 it paid out in full: at the VEX V5 Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, Team 77789A, FA-SUPREME SQUAD, won the High School Division title. AK Robotics is the summit stage of the OpenKids 3-to-24 pathway — the Competition & Awards programme that receives, from age 10, the strongest builders formed downstream: children who met code and motors in STEAM classrooms, then won VEX IQ Singapore four years running, 2023–2026. What it hands onward is just as deliberate — a multi-year engineering record that flows directly into global admissions preparation. The trophy is the visible output; the transcript of how it was won is the durable one.
Why children need real stakes
Our conviction: competition is not a garnish on engineering education — it is the ingredient that makes the rest of it true. A classroom deadline is negotiable; a match schedule is not. A grade measures what a teacher saw; an alliance match measures whether the machine works when it counts, in front of everyone. Students who spend their teens inside that loop learn something no protected environment can teach — that excellence is a habit performed under pressure, not a compliment received in private. That is what a podium is actually for.
