OpenKids AI

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026 · Version 2026-06-v1

DRAFT — pending review by children's-privacy counsel before launch.

1. Who we are

OpenKids AI is operated by Openkids International Pte Ltd, a company registered in Singapore ("we", "us"). We provide a safety-first AI learning platform for children and teenagers, used by families and partner education institutions. For anything in this policy, contact privacy@openkids.ai.

2. What we collect — and what we deliberately don't

From parents: name, email and account credentials. From children: a nickname, birth year (never the full birth date), learning conversations with our AI coaches, and usage time.

We deliberately do NOT collect a child's address, school name, photos, precise location, contact lists or government identifiers — and our coaches are designed to decline such information if a child offers it.

3. How we use information

We use this information to run the service: personalising coaching to your child's level, enforcing safety rules, metering Credits, showing parents progress and safety reports, and improving our education quality. We do not show advertising, and we never sell or rent personal information.

4. Your child talks to an AI

Coaches are artificial intelligence, are always labelled as AI, and never pretend to be a real person. To generate replies, conversation text is processed by vetted AI model providers acting as our processors under contract; they are not permitted to use children's data to train their models.

5. Safety monitoring and parent visibility

Every message in both directions passes automated safety filtering. High-risk events (for example signs of self-harm or abuse) trigger a fixed, pre-written support response and a notification to the linked parent account. Parents see summaries and safety alerts — designed for oversight, not surveillance.

6. When information is shared

Only with service providers needed to operate the platform (hosting, database, email delivery, AI model processing, payments for parents), each bound by contract to use data solely to provide their service; with a partner institution's teachers if your child is enrolled through that institution; or where the law requires. Never for advertising, and never sold.

7. Retention and deletion

We keep personal information only as long as an account is active or as needed for safety and legal records. When a parent deletes a child profile or withdraws consent, the child's personal information is deleted within 30 days, except minimal records we must retain (such as consent and safety-incident records, kept in restricted storage).

8. Parents' rights and controls

From the parent dashboard, or by emailing privacy@openkids.ai, a parent or legal guardian can: review the child's information, correct it, export it, delete it, withdraw consent (which stops all further collection), pause the account instantly, and set time limits. We verify that requests come from the registered parent.

9. Children's privacy laws

Children under 13 can only use OpenKids AI through an account created by a parent or legal guardian with verifiable consent (US COPPA; Singapore PDPA Advisory Guidelines). Users aged 13–18 who sign up themselves must provide a parent's email, and we notify that parent. Where local law sets a higher age of consent, we follow the local law.

10. Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Children's PINs are stored only as cryptographic hashes. Access to personal information is restricted to staff who need it, and we maintain a written information-security programme with regular review.

11. International transfers

Our primary infrastructure is hosted in Singapore. Where data is processed in other jurisdictions (for example by AI model providers), we use contractual safeguards consistent with PDPA requirements for overseas transfers.

12. Changes and contact

If we make material changes to this policy — especially anything expanding what we collect from children — we will notify parents by email and require renewed consent where the law demands it. Questions: privacy@openkids.ai. Singapore users may also contact the PDPC if unsatisfied with our response.
